HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Many years ago.... One of the first Thanksgiving's my hubby and I spent together did not exactly go according to plan. We lived near a lake. And we loved to walk around it. This would take some time, though. So we'd make a day of it. On this particular Thanksgiving Day... the sky was clear, and the weather was exceptional for a walk. Anxious to get started... we hurriedly made the oyster stuffing, cranberry relish and dressed the bird.  Once we put the turkey in the oven, we headed out, anxiously anticipating a delicious mouthwatering meal when we returned 3 hours later. As usual we enjoyed traipsing through the landscape for our walk. The first clue something was not quite right on the home front came when we opened the front door, on our return. The succulent fragrance of oven roasted turkey did not hit our nostrils. Instead we smelled nothing. Nothing at all. We rushed to the oven door, flipped it open to see what was wrong, only to discover we never turned the oven on. Talk about disappointment. We were famished and had nothing to eat. It was almost 6 o'clock. And being a tad bit naive about bacteria and such things... we simply shut the oven door and flipped on the switch. Dinner was served after 9 pm, that night. And we didn't get food poisoning. But we learned a valuable Thanksgiving lesson. Be willing to laugh at your mistakes. And ALWAYS check the on/off button on your stove when cooking a big meal. I wish each and every one of you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Do you have any Turkey Day tales????

WINTER FLOWERS

Last night we had our first measurable snowfall here. It is that time of year... when one of my beloved flowers, is starting to be seen everywhere around us. "The poinsettia is native to Mexico. There are over 100 cultivated varieties of it. On the downside... BEWARE if you have pets, unfortunately these plants can be poisonous to them. You can always use artificial ones, instead.  Legend has it... that a little girl, who was too poor... to give a gift for Jesus' birthday... was inspired by an angel, to gather weeds from the side of the road... and place them in front of the church's altar. Glorious crimson blossoms sprouted from the weeds and became beautiful poinsettias." These gorgeous plants come in many different colors. My favorite color is red. What is yours???

JUST CHANGE THE WRAPPER

Christmas candies, at full price... were out on all the store shelves on Halloween night. These retailers have this selling thing down to a science, don't they? They didn't give us consumers a chance to buy any leftover Halloween candy at a half off. Imagine that???

NO MORE GLARE

I wear glasses. Can't function without them. But... when the sun's rays get too bright... I squint and shield my eyes with my hand. It makes driving difficult, to be sure. So... after years of doing this, I finally wised up, made the investment and ordered a pair of prescription sunglasses. I got the brown tinted ones because they showed the world around me in a more natural light. I love them. At last I can see, inside and out.

COMFORT FOOD

A GREAT steak is good for the belly, every now and then.  We try to have one several times a month. Sometimes we make them at home. But usually we get them out at our favorite restaurant. Some people like theirs cooked rare, medium rare,  medium or well done. How do you like yours? I want mine to go, "MOO."
