When The
World Cup was televised, I couldn't wait for it to end. It seemed to go on
forever and a day. I had never been to a soccer game in my whole life. And
admitted to anyone who would listen I didn't like soccer. The reason being I grew up with baseball and football. But my granddaughter plays soccer. So last
month I was invited to one of her games. They were to play on Field One, which
is in close proximity to the parking lot, at a local elementary school. So that
way... I didn't have to walk too far, to attend. Because at my age, my legs are
no longer capable of taking me to the places I want to go, if too much walking
is involved. I brought my fold up burgundy chair and plopped myself down on the
sidelines, where others were positioning themselves to watch. Both of my
daughters were there, (a wonderful treat for me) ... and they insisted on mothering me... ( a tad bit
irritating). They told me to hold an umbrella to shield myself from the sun. I
thought that sounded silly. But it just so happened, it was 90 degrees out
there, even in the shade... and I felt like I was melting. According to my youngest
daughter who lived in Phoenix ,
Arizona for a while, everybody
there carries an umbrella to shade themselves. So she wanted me to do it. She
was worried I might have heatstroke. I have to admit, when I tried it, it took the edge off the bright sunshine and
made the outdoor venue a little more tolerable. The game started and I settled
into the rhythm of the kids footwork as they ran up and down the field. Some of
them looked bedraggled, after a while, because of the heat. So I was happy to
see the coaches keeping the children, hydrated. I don't understand the complexities of the
sport. And I sometimes thought... the parents cheering on the kids, were a little
too focused on scoring and winning. But I enjoyed the overall game and took a
ton of pictures of my granddaughter doing her thing out there on the soccer
field. Unfortunately I can't share them with you here because my older daughter
doesn't want any pictures of her family posted online. And I have to respect
her wishes. Such a shame, though. I'm a proud grandma who opened her mind to
something new, soccer. And found out I
liked it. IMAGINE that? Have you ever found out you actually liked something you
thought you didn't?

FREE OF CHARGE
My Motorola Droid Global cell phone had a meltdown. It is five years old. Back in the day it was
the best that money could buy. And I thought it would last forever. Unfortunately though, it started to randomly
make calls from my contact list without me lifting a finger. It seemed
possessed going up and down through the list. Calling and hanging up before
anybody answered. Then it went through my apps like a madman searching,
searching, so the page kept scrolling without me doing a thing. It got so bad I
couldn't even use the darn phone. It had a mind of it's own and didn't want to
cooperate. I tried powering it down. That didn't work. Then I tried taking the
battery out and putting it back in. That worked for a few minutes, then it went
back to craziness. I took it to the Verizon store figuring they'd have a
solution. They did. They wanted me to upgrade to a newer phone. A Samsung
Galaxy 4. I resisted this because a) I didn't want to give up my qwerty
keyboard and b) I knew it was going to
cost me money. First they told me those kind of keyboards were obsolete and I needed to get with the program. But then they said, there was good news. Because we had taken insurance out on the old Motorola phone and it
malfunctioned... it would be upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy 4, free of charge. That's right, FREE. And it had so many new features it wasn't funny. Plus it was 4G. So I reluctantly accepted the deal. Though I worried
about my ability to understand the newer technology. I am happy to report, two
weeks later, I'm no longer scared of what I don't know and am instead thrilled
by what I do. I love my new Galaxy 4 and feel in step with the millennial crowd.
But according to my daughter I shouldn't. She says my phone is no big deal
because she has a newer version, The Samsung Galaxy 5. And supposedly mine is
nothing compared to that. Gosh makes me long for the days when I had a landline
and a phone was just a phone. No bragging rights, required.

VINTAGE CLASSIC CAR SHOW
While I
was out and about.... I came across a parking lot and field full of vintage automobiles. Though I am sad
to say, I don't know the makes and models of these fabulous rides... it was fun
seeing cars from back in the day. Those grills, lights and bodies were full
of character, weren't they? Not like the 'cookie cutter' vehicles of today. If
you recognize any of the beauties pictured here, leave a comment and tell me what they are. I'm sure we'd all enjoy knowing.
