We decided to
switch things up a little bit this year. Instead of doing the same old thing
for Valentine’s Day, we wanted to try something different. No roses or boxed
candy. No dinner out. We opted for
something more intimate here at home, just the two of us… without the hustle
bustle of a crowded restaurant. So my hubby bought home, a good loaf of
multi-grain bread. The kind that comes wrapped in paper, not plastic. Then I
rustled up a couple plates of mussels, sautéed in wine and garlic. Simple, but
elegant. And the piece de resistance, were
chocolate covered strawberries from Shari ’s
Berries for dessert. They were sinfully delicious. And we were delighted we had deviated from our usual fare.

Those chocolates look delicious! I never cooked mussels; good for you for going out of your "norm" and celebrating Valentine's Day a bit differently this year. We cooked at home too, but went out for breakfast and had gone out Friday night. I think its more relaxed to stay at home than fight the crowds on the big holidays like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, etc.

Your plans sound infinitely more attractive than anything a restaurant could offer!
Now, I've a shellfish allergy, but would be more than willing to sop up that wine & garlic sauce with a wedge of your amazing bread! (smile)
Ours was a low-key observance for sure ... gooey, greasy cheeseburgers and onion rings at Red Robin. Simple pleasures, right?
Ahhhhhhhh the Simple pleasures of YOuth!
Neat and Sweet!
STay warm!
How thoughtful!
Yum! I love chocolate covered strawberries. Your dinner sounds wonderful!
Your dinner sounds wonderful and the strawberries look scrumptious. Sometimes there is no place like home for comfort.
Sounds wonderful!! I LOVE chocolate covered strawberries!!
That sounds like fun! We have done that sometime. We used to do the actual day at home and then do a make up dinner out when the restaurants were not crowded on a later day. Now we found a lot of folks take reservations and have some good deals if you call in advance. But it's a big city! Not having reservations would be bad though. I am sure those chocolates were good!
Oh Taryterre, I've always wanted to try Shari's Berries! They look so good. What a lovely night in with your husband. Sometimes those are the best, and it sounds like you had a very nice Valentine's Day.
I'll have to do something like this next year. The crowds can be so overwhelming.
love, ~Sheri
That sounds like a great Valentine's Day dinner. We prefer staying home too, it's just nicer than being in a crowded restaurant.
