I love to
grocery shop. But, there is one aspect to it, that drives me bonkers. That is... opening the
plastic bags to deposit fruit or veggies. It is a real chore for me. No ifs,
ands, or buts about it… I can not master the art, of doing what should be, a
simple task. Those bags remain firmly closed, and I struggle to open 'em… for at
least 5 to 10 minutes, each time… feeling
like a complete idiot. Nothing rattles my cage more than this. Well, perhaps
that is overstating the problem a bit. But you catch my drift, right? As I attempt to gather my produce.... dealing with these bags is... irritating, distracting, not to mention... time consuming. Is it me? Or do you too, have an issue with them? If not, do you have any
quick tips, to outsmart these pesky PLASTIC bags, so they say OPEN SESAME? This frustrated lady wants to know? Personally, I’d prefer PAPER ones, instead. Maybe, I should petition my local store, to offer them as an option... for old, weary shoppers with fumblefingers. Or is that BUTTERFINGERS? Why am I suddenly craving chocolate?
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

From time to time, I do have the same issue-not just for the fruit bags but also the store self checkout bags. Prying them open is an art indeed, sigh.
Have a splendid week!
OMG - - you've hit a bullseye with this one!!!! This is one of my major complaints and absolute frustrations. It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to open those damn plastic bags and I actually dread buying produce because of it. This is no exaggeration.
Last week I was attempting to buy tomatoes and onions and it took me ten minutes to pry one of those bags open. First of all, you can't figure out exactly which end of the bag opens and most of the time is wasted trying to open the wrong end.
I often wonder if this is a deliberate ploy to discourage people from using the bags. As if all this isn't frustrating enough, once you finally get the bag open and put in the produce, there are never any of those little green tieback thingies left, so you can't tie the bag shut.
I am glad at least our store has added an arrow to point to the end I should open. Once there it is every shopper for themselves. How do they make a plastic so thin and clingy!
Yep, I share your frustration...
What are you folks doing up at this hour? I thought I was early! (smile)
Hubby and I have the same problem....it does help to lick (or wet) your fingers and then "rub" the bag open at the top. I also wonder if those little rubber index finger tip "thingies" that I once used as a secretary to flip thru stacks of paper would work.
I'm not a fan of plastic bags either. I agree that paper would be easier. Ir'a wonder no one has come up with an easier solution.
me again....I just read a handy tip.....wear a thick rubber band around your wrist and place it over your fingers to separate those plastic bags!
I always have to open them for John. He has a terrible time with them.
Hubby heard of a way to open them easier; something with the way you twist and turn the bag before you try to open it. To me, it seems more complicated to do, but it works. I'm about 99% successful on the first try, but I've had trouble opening trash bags, so bad on one kind I bought that after a few of them, I decided to give them to son rather than deal with the frustration of opening them for the trash can (he agreed they were hard to open, but he's more on a budget than I am at the time so he welcomed them :)
betty
I always have to lick my fingertips to get the edges separated on those plastic bags. And then that brings up the question of how many germs did I just put in my mouth from touching stuff in the store. lol!
Yes - licking the fingers works. However, not sure it's very sanitary! Maybe take a damp paper towel along to moisten your fingers?
Om my goodness, you've touched on one of my own pet peeves!
... Especially when my DH just takes it away and says, "Here, let me do it." Naturally, it opens obediently for HIM on the first try. I keep looking around to catch store personnel giggling at us, but no such luck.
Taryterre, I know exactly what you mean because it's been frustrating to me for years, but I've found that if your fingers are wet (maybe bring a moist paper towel) then it is a lot easier to open. Try it sometimes, it really works. Good luck, and I can really relate to what you're saying.

Just checking in, Taryterre. I haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope you're doing ok. Thinking of you tonight. :~)
love, ~me
It's been a long time since you posted. I hope everything is okay,
Oh I hear ya on that! I can't get them open. And I also have some trash bags for the bathroom that I CAN NEVER get open unless I wet my fingers. Drives me crazy! lol
Taryterre,
I wanted to tell you I was going to take your blog off our side bar because you haven't posted in three months and I'm not sure if you stopped blogging or not. I have missed you and tried to e-mail, but don't have your e-mail address. Please let me know if you return to blogging, and I will immediately put you back on my side bar. YOU and your blog have always been so delightful to me, and I don't want to lose contact with you.
I hope you are well, Taryterre, and I think about you often. :)
You're my blog sister and love you,
~Sheri
Thinking of you and definitely want to keep in touch. Hope all is well. Your blogging buddies miss you!
I wet my thumb and index fingers and worry about what germs I just put into my mouth. There is an arrow to show which end to open. Those bags are a pain. There are no twist ties, so I just tie the end--no problem.
Mostly, I try to remember my canvas bags.
You haven't posted in quite a while, so I was just hoping that you are OK and that nothing serious has happened with you. Maybe you could just post a brief message to let us know you are OK or have decided not to stop blogging. We miss reading your posts & I hope all is well.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I have the same problem!! And it gets worse with time... older age/arthritic hands/ impatience. lol.
Missing you Lady! Hope everything is okay. Please let us hear from you. Your blogger friends are all missing you. Take care, Sheila
