I
have a new hobby and it’s driving me to distraction. It’s affordable, fun and
trending. When I recently lost 100 pounds, my closets were bare. I could not
afford to buy new clothes to support the weight loss, so I had empty hangers
from one end of the closet to the other. But then I began THRIFTING. Now my closets are overstuffed with brand
name shoes, purses and a stunning new wardrobe courtesy of Goodwill, Plato’s
Closet, St. Vincent De Paul, Salvation Army
and Value World. (All unconventional shopping experiences in their own right.) I
love the fact you won’t see my new outfits coming and going on someone else.
It’s a unique closet chosen especially for me featuring the things I like, that
are akin to being, one of a kind, because they’re vintage. I love it. Everything was purchased at bargain
basement prices. Shoes for $2. Purses for $3. Shirts, pants for $1.99. And
blazers for $4. The thrill of getting something for next to nothing is exciting,
you have to admit. But this goes beyond that, it helps those less fortunate.
People who are disabled and poorer than me. Recycling clothes is an admirable endeavor
and I’m on the front lines doing my part to help. What about you? Have you ever
thrifted? If your answer is no, why not?

It pays to know how to stretch a dollar.

Good for you with the weight loss ;)
I do thrift; since I work at home I don't need a lot of "fancy" clothes so I'll go to the thrift store for casual tops, etc. I do have a few things I buy from the regular store for nicer wear :)
betty
You looking great and the outfits and shoes looks so nice. We don’t have a good will here we have a Cristian center, but I haven’t shopped there. The guy that painted my house and did some other work for me he always was dressed nice, and he said he bought his clothes from up there. Take care, Jean
congrats on your weight loss, and finding such great deals. you are a lovely lady.
Your outfits look wonderful and so do you ! I love thrift shops and have been a faithful visitor to them for many years. It's such a nice way to dress well for less.
WOW, what a change you have made. I have the funniest(not ha ha)idea, but it seems someone else can pick clothes better than I. Yes, we do use the thrift stores and a lot of yard sales. It is also our entertainment. Very good entry. (LOOKING GOOD!)
Taryterre, clothes are so expensive - I'm glad you found some items that you liked that were affordable. I like that teal purse. I think it's a great idea (recycling clothes). One of the most unique and lovely pictures I found was at St. Vincent De Paul. And Yes, we are helping those in need when we go thrift shopping!
Have a terrific week, dear.
love, ~Sheri
Congrats on such a large weight loss. Yes yes we do thrift and love it. We find almost and sometime new stuff and its our entertainment too.
You look wonderful, Taryterre! (Feeling better, I hope?)
Years ago I discovered thrifting and haven't looked back! In fact, I happened on a cute blouse in a 'normal' department store recently ... glanced at the price tag and practically dropped it on the floor. Ridiculous.
I think thrifting is a fantastic idea - and your wardrobe looks great. Why bother with expensive stuff at full price, when you can find excellent things for a bargain?
Yup, all the time. I trade clothes with friends and bring things that don't fit to the Salvation Army and to a local store that donates work style clothes to women getting their first jobs. If a coat no longer fits it goes to the winter coat drive. And when I bring things to the Salvation Army I take a look at what they have.
P.S. You look great!
Congratulations on the weight loss...you look great! I have bought several things at thrift/resale shops. I love saving money when I can. Even if I were a zillionaire, I'd probably still be thrifty. It is ingrained after so many years of stretching dollars. Actually, it is fun to save money to me!
Well done with your weight loss! you look lovely best wishes x
I love shopping at the GoodWill! Its one of my Sunday afternoon things to do. I love used cloths since I too have been loosing weight and refuse to pay high prices at the mall only to wear something a couple times. I refuse to wear used shoes though. I also like looking for vintage items. Congrats on your weight loss!!!! 100 lbs? WOW. I've lost 50. Feels good!!

First of all, I am glad to see you are posting again & are OK. Congratulations on your amazing weight loss. You look wonderful. I know it takes commitment & a great deal of effort to improve your health & make a significant lifestyle change. I also lost around 80 pounds this past year & had the same issue of how to replace my wardrobe. I visited local consignment shops & purchased gently used clothing on Ebay. Everything was reasonably priced & looked like new. Best of all the prices were right and these bargains allowed me to wear well fitting clothes as my sizes decreased. In turn, I donated all my larger clothing to charities for others to enjoy. You look very stylish in your new outfits. No one would ever guess they came from thrift stores.
LOVE thrifting! Also, love the idea that they give back. I was witness to this just a while back when a friend was going through some very hard times and my friend was helped out by St Vinnies with the rent. I couldn't believe it. Also, my friend received some assistance through Goodwill towards the electric bill .... again... I couldn't believe this happened. ALL THE MORE REASON to support these organizations. PLUS... I have found some really great stuff at them. Thumbs UP!!!
AND CONGRATULATIONS on losing that much weight!! WOW!!!!
p.s. Now HOW did you lose 100 pounds? That is amazing. Tell me! Susan
