RIP DARA, a year later

Dara was a faithful companion and devoted friend who never left our side for the past 17 years. She was ornery. Always found herself in impossible situations but somehow managed to find her way out of them. She loved playing with her catnip mice and laser dot. Jumping up on countertops, nightstands, vanities and tables was her way of having fun and driving us to distraction. We adopted her and her sister 17 years ago on our way to buy a toilet. There was a sign on the road pointing to a house that said, FREE KITTENS. We fell in love instantly. I thought we would just get one, but my hubby insisted we take two. Our hearts were filled by their unconditional love. In recent days, Dara went blind and just couldn't adjust to her new normal. And day by day her health deteriorated. Her sister Mira, I and my hubby were with her as she took her last breath and passed into this new realm. We know Dara is now at peace. She will be missed MORE than you can possibly imagine. Our hearts are broken but we know she will be running and jumping free of suffering now. We love you little Dara. You were a good girl. The best ever.

It’s been a year since you passed and we are still getting used to our lives without you. Without all your shenanigans. I wanted you to know you are forever in our hearts Dara. And today, I wanted to honor your memory, with just a few words. We are thinking about you.  Your spirit lives on … And we treasure all the memories.  Love you sweetie.

I am smiling at your first introduction to Dara. Yep seeing kittens will definitely draw you to them. What a pleasure to enjoy a pet that many years. It was like Dara won the lottery! I can only imagine having the enjoyment of a pet's company that many years. Great memories.

Sorry about Dara. Some hurts take a while to diminish.

So sorry for your loss. Our pets are like family and the loss of a loved one is hard on us. After U kist the last of my pets, I decided not to have any more. Losing them is just too hard. Still I have fond memories of the ones I had. They were the greatest of companions and are very missed. RIP Dara.

What a bittersweet tribute! Her eyes were so beautiful.

My heart-dog, Caraleigh, has been gone for 8 years, but I always pause on the anniversary and say a prayer that's she happy.

PS - Loved your story how Dara and Mira came to live with you. That's much the same way we adopted Macie and Grace: Neither Tom or I was willing to let one or the stay behind! Compromise isn't all it's cracked up to be. (*smileI*)

Dara was beautiful and this is a beautiful tribute to her. Our animals become like our children. We have raised 14 dogs over 20 years and we have five left.. I miss the others every day and it still hurts and probably always will. Our animals have a huge home in our hearts and I pray that when my time comes the Lord blesses me and allows my babies to be with me in heaven...

This is a nice post for Dara. It sounds like she was a loyal companion and you loved her so much. I know you must miss her terribly, Taryterre. Sending thoughts of comfort and love to you today as you are remembering your beloved cat, your special friend.
