Rushing Forward

Perhaps...
 instead of Rushing Forward,
We should stand our ground.
Hold Back
and shelter in place,
just a little bit longer...
As the race to find a cure
for Covid19 goes forward,
the current attitude of many
in this country
is more people will ultimately die,
because of the virus, but so be it.
They are collateral damage.
We don't need more testing.
They must be sacrificed for the greater good.
Reopening the economy is more important
in their opinion, than an
infected or dying person...
The unemployed are suffering, no doubt.
But there are many
creative ways
one can find to make a buck,
in times like this.
And all hope is not gone for them..
They still have their lives.
Protests in the streets with people
carrying nooses, guns and swastikas
demanding we capitulate and
REOPEN NOW
or else...
is NOT who Americans are.
Or is it?
I am saddened by the flames of hatred,
name calling
and partisan divide being stoked
at the highest levels of our government
and in the public at large
during this health crisis...
There is no empathy, no compassion.
But...
I am heartened by those out there -
 the everyday heroes,
in grocery stores, working at carry-outs,
in the post office and hospitals, etc
who have made a difference
in each and every one of our lives,
by being there…
as this pandemic rages on,
and the death totals rise.
They give us hope that humanity is worth
our sacrifices during this difficult time
and that EVERY life matters
not just certain ones....
because of age, race, religion
or political affiliation.
Across the globe, people stayed home
for the greater good of their country.
They social distanced to curb the spread.
Only here in America
did people get bored with
the status quo of
staying home to keep safe
and keep others out of harm’s way too.
Instead they got riled up by Twitter
and misguided information
by self serving people, not heeding
science and doctors.
As a result, people
have decided ME is more important
than the collective WE...
we began to embrace as a society.
Instead
people are rushing to get
back to their lives,
to have pedicures, haircuts and the like,
 with callous disregard
to the population
as a whole.
COVID19 is a KILLER.
This is NOT the flu.
It is DEADLY
and affects each of us differently.
You may be fine one day, and dead the next.
In past wars that lasted far longer
than a couple months…
 Americans understood
we are
ALL in this TOGETHER.
Letting sick people just die
or letting healthy ones get infected, just
because we want to selfishly
go to the beach, mall or wherever…
should NEVER be part of the equation.
I pray for America.
It seems to me...
we have
lost our way,
save for a few good souls
who have our backs.

God Bless them. Every single one.

ps) this post is not intended to be political. instead i'm just stating my observations.

You are worth it too.

So much heartfelt truth. We have so many wonderful giving people in this country being overshadowed by nasty self serving people who can't see the forest for the trees it seems.
Maybe, just maybe someone will bring some sanity, maybe.

I need a proofer even for a comment. (sorry)

i watched the moron say that covid will disappear even without a vaccine. unfortunately, he is so stupid that he doesn't realize he's stupid. dunning-kruger effect. he knows he's safe so he doesn't give a crap about anyone else. he is totally devoid of feelings.

The attitudes of some are thankfully not that of everyone. I'm all for staying in and in no rush at all to hurry back out there. I'm in for a while and hope to stay that way. I have a family that supports me and brings groceries regularly. I don't need to get my hair done or anything else that will risk my health. Take care there and stay healthy.

That is basically what the Governor of Georgia said. He opened Georgia so the 'people' could go back to work - but not to worry - we had enough hospital rooms to take care of the extra (older) people who will get sick with the virus. We are expendable.

Wonderfully expressed, Terre! Our ladies Bible group met Monday morning (al fresco) and one voiced concern our Country is headed for another (un)Civil War. Joining you in prayer!

Oh Taryterre, I think it's too soon to open up the states again. Thank you for sharing your concerns and thoughts with us today. I will pass this on to my children.

Stay well, dear friend of mine.

A lot of thought and concern went into this post. Take care and stay well.

You mentioned possible snow in your recent comment on my blog. It's unusually cold here in TN, too. Going to be in the 20s tonight!!
Where is spring???

Well written. When human life is devalued, humanity is on the slide.

I have been utterly amazed and disappointed by how selfish people can be. We're in Phase 1 of ur re-opening here in NC, and it seems like most people are going around with the attitude that they can do whatever they want. It's sickening.
