Losing a beloved pet is very hard, especially one like Mira, who shared so much of your lives. As much as you would have loved Madeline, she was not the "right" cat. I am sure there will come a time when the feelings will be right.

Thank you for sharing your deepest hurts and longings, Terre. I don't think there's an animal lover who can't relate on some level. When we adopted Macie and Grace (to aid in Tom's recovery) I have to admit, I was a bit resentful. They weren't Caraleigh. Only in time did I come to love them desperately, but I still long for my heart dog, Cara.

I can understand your heartbreak. I lost two cats and a dog in the same year. I can no longer take on another pet. For me it would be too hard to lose another one. But like you, I have some sweet memories.

You had such a special relationship with Mira. I'm sorry you're hurting after a year of her passing. Yes, everyone grieves differently, it's good that you know that. I'm sure Madeline went to a good home. I don't think it was you, I think many rescue cats and dogs are angry and unhappy. Many have been mistreated in their precious lives. You will always have beautiful memories of your sweet little Mira. Your words are heartwarming today, Taryterre, and sending you comfort and love on this difficult day.

I once told my dad I struggle to let go of my dogs when they passed. He told me you never let go of a child when they pass and my dogs are my four legged children (I have cats for grandkids). It will be a year in a month since Wilbur passed, a year on Halloween Rascal passed. It's daily I tell them I miss them, I love them and then hug Charlotte who looked to Wilbur as her Daddy and Rascal as her brother.
Blessed Be

There is nothing more heartbreaking than losing a beloved pet. They are not only a part of our family, but also a part of our heart and soul. It is impossible to find a replacement - - but I hope that in time you might find another kitty who needs love and affection.
Thanks for the beautiful post.
