One thing I
remember about my nana was always how good she smelled. Sweet and pretty. Her
dresser top would be lined up with all kind of things. No perfume that I recall. But she always had a
tin of Lilac & Roses Powder sitting there. It was a staple. And gave her
that signature fragrance I remember. Nowadays sweet powders are hard to come
by, sports blends dominate the market. And you’re much less likely to find powders
in a tin or ones with a puff. So imagine my delight finding this unique
container at a local antique store. I instantly thought I could use it to put powder and a puff in. It
reminded me of my grandma. So I added my own powder. And with the help of
Amazon and my husband… I found the right
size puffs, a little smaller than usual… to fit the circumference of the
container. So I could make this little dream a reality. DO you have something that reminds you of a loved one?

Things that we remember from the past are so special. I haven't seen powder puffs since I was a young child. My grandmother never used perfume, either. What I remember most was the wonderful aromas in the kitchen when she was cooking.
Glad you found the reminder of your Grandma Taryterre. I don't have anything like that. I don't remember if I told you or not, but the poinsettia spread on my dollhouse bed is really a Christmas handkerchief! Thanks for all your sweet visits. Susan
How precious!! Don't forget Avon for all the old-fashioned powders and products from years ago. You can find out who your rep is by contacting them through Avon-dot-com or order online without a rep. I love Avon products!! And I love this powder holder too. xxx
I have had things that were my mother-in-law's...I loved that woman so much. I have since passed those things to my daughters. I have some things that were my mom's...her name tag from her years working for KMart. I miss her so much. I was just at a birthday party at my granddaughter's house. It was my great grandson's 2nd birthday. Lynzie showed me she was using mommy's meat platter as a serving dish for cheeses and crackers. I knew my mom would not mind her owning it now. I am so glad you found that bath powder dish. I remember those and wish they still make the scented powder for Avon even. Thank you for taking me back in time. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
It doesn't seem that long ago ... yes, my mother had scented bath powder' with a puff. I'm sad not to recall her 'signature' fragrance. (She once read every woman needed to find a fragrance they loved and make it their own.) I was just talking to someone the other day how no-one seems to wear colognes any more.
Great find, and 'yay' for your hubby helping complete it!
Taryterre, how nice that you found a lilac container that reminds you of your grandma. And you found the powder pads to go with it, great. I love to look at women's dresser tops. It says a lot about the woman. It sounds like you have fond memories of your grandma's dresser. I always used to look at my mom's dresser when I went over to see her. Oh, I loved this post about memories, Taryterre. : )
love, ~Sheri
I had a wonderful aunt that always smelled of lavender talc and it was on top of her dresser with a powder puff in it.
What a wonderful find there!!! xo Diana
Aww, yep For me the powder puff kicks in memories of mama. Just the fact that on the dresser was always the round container and the round puff inside.
Thanks for jogging my noggin!
Haven't thought of those powders and puffs in ages; great to go down memory lane here. What a sweet find you found!

What a delightful find ! Powders like that have gone out of fashion. Every now and then I find tin with some lavender talc in it but not the pretty boxes. The smell of roses always reminds me of my mom. She used the same body lotion for years. Sadly they did stop making it. I found a similar one, but it is quite expensive. I think smells play a great part when it comes to memories.
Oh I remember the scented powders. Both my mom and grandmother had those on their dressers. Great find!
My grandmother always wore powder, too, but hers was always a perfume one. Pumpkin pie always makes me think of her. Gardening always makes me think of Nick's grandmother.
Very cool that you found the tin and puffs to fit it. :-)
I just recently acquired a photo of my dear sweet grandma in front of her Honeysuckle vine. I have it in a frame right here on top of my desk.
My mother used powder and a puff for years. Then, she died of ovarian cancer. The talc in powders has been found in cancerous ovaries. Even if you are not using it down there, it can migrate into your vagina, fallopian tubes and to ovaries.
