TALKING TURKEY, NOT?

I had my Thanksgiving meal planned months ago.
Just my hubby and I.
A pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.
And a turkey roulade for dinner.
With a little stuffing rolled inside.
YUM YUM
Best laid plans are no more.
My oldest daughter had a health scare.
Was in the hospital the other night.
We are all walking on pins and needles
hoping the seizures that put her there...
do NOT happen again, since she's back home.
So she is now coming over to eat here, with us..
The grandchildren are suppose to eat with their dad.
But that may or may not happen...
because his dad had heart failure and has contracted Covid.
Odds do not look like they are in his favor.
So that means the grandkids may or may not
come here too, to eat with their mom and us.
And all of this is well and good...
except for one very important fact.
NONE of them eats TURKEY.
So yours truly was scrambling for an alternative.
Looks like it's going to be
POT ROAST.
Not the Thanksgiving I hoped for.
But this way, I throw everything in a
big old crockpot for 8 hours
and then dinner is served.
No cranberry relish, extra oyster stuffing,
pumpkin pie or sweet potatoes needed.
Having carrot cake for dessert.
And after all the festivities are concluded on Thursday.
If all goes according to other plans...
My younger daughter will arrive here
over the weekend.
Her travel assignment will keep her in town
for the next 4 months...
We haven't seen her for 3 years
so we will look forward to
lots of hugs.
The only sad part will be, that my elderly mother
is back EAST and will not participate
in our celebration.
But she will be with friends and not alone...
So for that I'm grateful.
It's been a CRAZY couple years.

MEANWHILE...
Have fun eating ALL those traditional fixings.

I sincerely...
want to wish all my blog buddies, friends
and family around the country...
a very
HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

Life rarely turns out the way we plan but it's good your daughter is out of the hospital and can join you. Enjoy your dinner together and have the turkey another day when they are not there. Hope you enjoy all the hugs! Happy Thanksgiving !

Oh darn! I hate it when my carefully-orchestrated plans get scrambled. My son's all the time advising me (to) embrace the chaos. I hope your daughter continues to do well, and there's much comfort found in just being together.

Prayers for good health, a peaceful meal and wonderful memories.
I laughed and then shared with my brother the turkey not showing up for Tday.

All I can say it is good you are flexible. AND it is great when life throws YOU a curve and you can catch it. Our plans are up in the air related to an unpredictable son who is working to sell his home.
BUT to you, Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way that all works out for the the best. You will do, that is for sure.

There is nothing like making plans. Too bad, but it will all turn out, whatever happens at Thanksgiving. You all can eat something. Too bad about those not liking turkey. I hope the ill folks get better soon. And, good your mother is with people. Being old and alone would be the worst!

Maybe you can have a proper Thanksgiving closer to Christmas with the daughter who will be there. That sounds like fun to me.

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's health issues, but it's a blessing that you will be with loved ones for Thanksgiving. Perhaps you and your husband can have the turkey roulade and pumpkin cheesecake on some quiet evening during the holiday season (BTW - I LOVE turkey).

Ironically, I plan to have pot roast in a slow cooker, too, because my oven isn't working. Have a pleasant Thanksgiving.

I will take pot roast over turkey any day. Not much of a turkey fan, but it's Thanksgiving so we must eat turkey. So glad you will be seeing both your daughters, and possibly your grandchildren as well. There's no reason not to have the turkey roulade and pumpkin cheesecake, just push it back for a bit. At any rate, I wish you and yours a wonderful day.

So glad you will see your daughters this Thanksgiving, and maybe the grandkids. I'm so sorry the Dad has the virus, that's awful. We had the traditional turkey and sides (it was my son's first time cooking the turkey, and it turned out delicious). Pot roast and carrot cake sounds really good. It doesn't matter the menu when all the family is together. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Taryterre.

Your poor daughter!
Sounds like your T-giving was more subdued than in the past. I hope you are well, and keeping well.
