White Christmas and a Purple Radio

With the Christmas spirit all around, I find myself humming all the old classics. I can’t get enough of them. Modern technology takes a backseat in my house. I have an old purple radio with a broken antenna in the kitchen. It’s tuned to the station that plays nonstop Christmas music, day in and day out. When I wake up…  first thing I do is head into the kitchen and turn on that old radio, then make a cup of tea. I’m delighted beyond words to listen to the songs. They bring me such joy. Something so very simple... brightens my day before it really begins. This is where my head is, immersed in the magic and wonder of the Christmas season.  But today as my daily routine began… I pulled open the door to my refrigerator freezer. And... as I  reached in to get an ice pack... for my aching back. And something to thaw out for dinner later… a block of FROZEN bison meat, weighing about one pound… flew off the top shelf, and hit me on the side of my head... before adding insult to injury, falling kaput on top of my foot and toes. I shrieked. It hurt. Really hurt. Did I mention I was barefoot. It became clear at that moment... as the radio blasted holly jolly songs, and I sat down to nurse my sore head and foot... that  this was going to be a BAD day. The universe had decided to derail that good fuzzy feeling I had deep inside from the music… and replace it with the cold harsh reality that is my life. No Hallmark Movie happy endings here. Maybe tomorrow, I thought… as I said the hell with the tea…
and hobbled  to turn the radio off
and head back to bed.
Secretly hoping for a white Christmas in my dreams.

OH, OUCH I feel for you I have noticed as I age any hit on the top of my feet HURTS like crazy. What a way to start the day. BUT the Christmas Music will win. Hope this whole day is GREAT over all.
Love from down here. We will hit the road in less than an hour.

You poor thing. I hate it when days start off like that one. It's better just to stop trying and start all over again. I do hope the rest of your days are Merry and Bright! I love Christmas songs and have them playing here too!

Yikes! Ouch!
Your plans to go back to bed sound like the perfect solution. Why risk more bad juju?

PS - Love your necklace!

Oh no, that must have hurt when it banged your head and then your feet. I hope the pain goes away soon. I was smiling when you were talking about your purple radio in the kitchen playing the old Christmas classics, because I used to have a radio in my kitchen too many years ago, and I really miss that. It does bring some holiday cheer when we hear those old songs. But I try to find them on the radio when I'm driving in my car. I hope you have better days this week, Taryterre. Maybe you will have a white Christmas after all. I'm hoping for some snow before Christmas also. : )

I read this last night and was going to come back and comment. I know both those hits hurt so bad. Just now, an avalanche hit me from the freezer! It hurts so bad to have something hit the top of the foot. I think it might be because I have age-related arthritis in my foot. Going back to bed was the best idea!

Like yourself, we are also listening to holiday tunes non-stop in our home, Tarryterre, but from a streaming subscription vs. a favorite radio, and purple is a great choice (my favorite color too!) Sorry to read about that bison meat block dampening your spirits and your day. Perhaps it was the spirit of the deer? Too bad you had to forgo the cuppa tea, but going back to bed and resting seems to have been a better choice underv the circumstances.

What a rotten thing to happen! I hope your freezer wounds will heal quickly - - and you can settle down with a soothing cup of tea while enjoying the Christmas music. Don't let the nasty detours sap your holiday spirit.

When I lived in Texas, one Thanksgiving I dropped an 18 pound frozen turkey on my foot. It hurt like hell but at least I was wearing shoes.
