Woe Is Me . More USPS Insights from where I'm sitting.

In my life… there have been numerous USPS mail mishaps over the past few years. Packages and letters that don’t arrive on time.  Gift cards and gifts that have mysteriously disappeared into thin air. Last fall I was out over $300. And thats not including the cost of shipping. No kidding.  Just a litany of bad things, seemingly getting worse over time. I have filled out forms, submitted the paperwork and ultimately arrive at a dead end in most cases. With the USPS giving me excuses that nothing can be done to remedy the situation. These things happen.  A month ago… a clerk didn’t scan ONE of the three items, I brought into the post office to send back to the manufacturer. Each item had a  prepaid label. I hate to be cynical but I bet dimes to donuts, she lifted it.  By not scanning it into the system, there was no record of it ever being returned. This infuriated me. So I sent off a letter to the Postmaster.  It was sent back as undeliverable. I kid you not. It became clear this was another postal problem they didn’t want to deal with.  Fortunately, the  company I had been trying to return this package too, was very understanding. They refunded me... so I wasn’t out the money.  So I’m grateful for their understanding that all this happened through no fault of my own. I seriously hope the postal clerk is enjoying her new ring, courtesy of me. The other clerks are not above reproach either. I can’t tell you how many times… I’ve watched them 'feel up' the envelopes I’m sending,  while I’m buying stamps. They blatantly ask if there is a gift card in them? Then… they inform me the postal service doesn’t reimburse you for lost gift cards. I NOW realize that. Most I’ve attempted to send, have not reached their destinations. And I’ve been out significant sums of money. I wonder why? Employees with STICKY FINGERS, no doubt. Something else to note, this just isn't happening where I live.  A postal clerk,  halfway across the country, back East, miles from here… waited on my mom. She was sending a birthday card to my niece. The man at the counter talked about the pretty PINK envelope it was in. And then inquired if it was for a special occasion? My 87 year old mom said yes. Her granddaughter's birthday. That card never saw the light of day from that point on. My niece never got the $50 bill my mom had innocently tucked inside it. I’m sure that clerk opened it and pocketed the $50. Theft is a great 'side hustle' for these folks who are working at Post Office, isn't it?  I’m desensitized. And disillusioned. Hoping something will change my mind about all this. But more BAD than good has come out of my interactions with the USPS in recent years. So sad, the levels they have now sunk to. Used to be such a respected institution. Now it's a cesspool of greed.  And in closing I’ll just say this. I ordered a Pioneer Woman 'gingham COW mug' a few weeks back. I was so excited to find an affordable one online. I like to drink my tea from a cup/mug with character. Fills me with joy. You have to take it where you can find it, right folks? So I anxiously awaited it's arrival. It  finally was delivered the other day. See the photo below. Need I say more??? I’m just saying??
Que Sera Sera.

It is a shame about the cup and all the other stuff stolen from you. I sent a $20 bill to my brother that never arrived. It never left to PO! I had addressed the card as I came to the counter. It was in one of the long cards and envelopes, one that is for sending money. I learned my lesson. I never sent money through the mail and I never used one of the cards for money.

I love good honest postal workers. But you are right about the image of our U.S. Mail not being as it once was. I say bring back pony express it was faster than of the mail has been delivered the last 3 years. LOL. I never send cards any more. Nor money. Sad about your mug. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

This makes my blood boil! I'm not at all a fan of the Postal Service, but what's one to do? Other than hope they go bankrupt and are replaced with an affordable alternative.

PS - Back in the day, my son sent girlfriend/DIL a diamond engagement ring in a greeting card from Germany to Alabama. No registered or certified mail, nothing. We're still shaking our heads -- both that he was so naive and that it arrived as intended.

Oh no, your Pioneer Woman cup. So sorry that got broke in the delivery. That was a cute one of the cow on the front. That's just awful what's been happening to you, Taryterre, and I feel even worse for your elderly Mom. I've been fortunate to get things in tact when they come to me. They are always wrapped tightly and securely, and my mail carrier is pretty good with the mail around here. I hope things get better for you. After reading all this, you probably are thinking twice about sending things in the mail for awhile. : )

Yeah, for sure the USPS is not the great institution we all remember it to be back in the day. That's horrible about your mom's card never making it to your niece. We've had a couple of things like that happen in recent years. It's only gotten worse with Trump appointed DeJoyless at the helm. So sorry about your pretty cow mug.

My carriers have had fits over the office not sorting mail correctly and not marking damaged packages or taping them. I don't send gift cards at all. I either send it through FB or Zelle through my bank.

WOW, funny this should come now. Sherry is our bookkeeper. We only send checks thru the mail. Right now she is missing $$$$ sent Christmas and also BD's at the time. Of course the checks are not cashed, but it 'messes' with her accounting and they have to be resent.
You have had some dillies, hate it about the cup.
TAke care and BETTER LUCK as time goes on. Maybe we shold box our cards and gifts and send them UPS!
Love from down here,
Thinking of you....

I think we've all had some bad experiences with the post office. They need to do something about it. In our area there have even reports of corner mail boxes being broken into and mail stolen. The whole system needs revision. But you have had more than your share of bad experience. Too bad we don't have an alternative choice. So sorry for all your losses, but know you are not alone. Many of us are in the same boat.

You definitely have a right to be infuriated about the loss of your items and also the damaged mug, Tarryterre. Thankfully, I have not had mailed gift cards not delivered (perhaps stolen?) and only 1 package was never received. But living in an apartment complex with over 900 residents there is always a concern/fear that an expected delivery will go missing usually because of misplacement by the delivery people. This is because all package deliveries go in a certain room with designated areas for specific floors (there are 5 floors in each bill building). To date, I have not experienced issues you have described, although undoubtedly they do happen, sadly. I hope you can get the damaged mug replaced at no additional cost.

That is outrageous that you are having so many problems with the Post Office. I order many things online and have had excellent delivery service from the Post Office and FedEx and UPS. I hope you get great service from now on, it is so disappointing to have mail mislaid. That poor sad broken cup!
