Yesterday was Ground Hog’s Day. Phil the cute groundhog predicted 6 more weeks of winter.
Which explains why a snowstorm is bearing down on us, as I write. Blizzard
conditions are predicted. It’s going to be BAD. The ice and snow have begun. It’s suppose to last though Friday. Our local weather guy says to expect 12- 16
inches. We have a generator in the garage that should have been trashed long
ago. If the power goes out… we are just going to have to grin and bear it. So…
we’ll be piling on extra layers of clothes and blankets to get us through the
worst of it… if that happens. I spent all yesterday morning preparing meals for the next
5 days. They can be eaten HOT or COLD to handle whatever circumstances Mother
Nature puts us in. After I had finished
my meal preparation I needed to sit and relax. The calm before the storm. Wanted
a cup of hot tea. So I made it… and sat down at the kitchen table. I had put my
Yankee Candle/ Merry Berry
under my candle warmer when I woke up earlier around 4 am. It’s fragrance permeated the air with its sweet notes of sugar plum, raspberry, butter cookie, apricot and honeybell orange. As
I was sitting there enjoying the moment… I
noticed something besides a candle wick floating in the melting wax. At first... I
wasn’t sure what it could be…. then when I moved the candle warmer closer, it
became obvious. A rotten old STINKBUG was on it's back, lying in the hot wax. At first… I was
horrified that it’s rancid odor had been released when he accidently landed… into my $25 candle… (that I had gotten for
75% off… after the holidays.) I was sure that he had ruined it. But… when my hubby sniffed the candle, there was no evidence of that. So I immediately scooped the
dead nuisance out of the candle wax… with a napkin, and handed it to my husband
to put in the trash. He looked at me and I looked at him and I said, “At least
now he won’t STINK.” Both of us burst out laughing. Those of you who have encountered a stinkbug, will understand just how funny that is. A little humor went a long way to change the
trajectory of what’s suppose to turn into a BAD situation here over the next
few days. And I appreciated the diversion. One stinkbug down.
One blizzard to
go.
LET IT SNOW.

What five meals did you cook that can eat hot or cold. I hope you don't lose electricity.
Thankful for the stink bugs we get don't have that much of an odor. Stay safe, we are supposed to get the same as you. Buckeye Chuck said no early spring here.
I always dread losing power.. Hopefully that won't happen to either of us. Keep safe and warn there. Nice to add some humor into this bad weather.
RIP little stinkbug! Would you believe, I never heard of them until we moved here to Alabama.
I love how you're coping -- prepare for the worst, but surround yourself with those things that bring you comfort!
Love the ending 'Cheers' shot!!!
Yep them stinkers can ruin a day. We have had that problem lately. Great you can plan ahead that well to have meals ready. Stay warm and safe. We seldom get a candle out anymore, maybe it is time...
Love from a sunny Florida, we are finally warming up, maybe y'all will after you fight this one all the way...
Sherry and jack, Life is good even if you must hunker down...
It's odd to see a stink bug this time of year - although they do show up at strange times here in TN. Glad that he didn't ruin your beautiful candle.
It's been a rough winter nearly everywhere. I don't think I can handle six more weeks of it. I hope you don't have a power outage during the blizzard. Unfortunately the outages always happen during the coldest time of year. You were very wise to prepare those hot/cold meals in advance. Bundle up, stay cozy, and take care. My thoughts are with you.
Oh yes, our years of living on the VA eastern shore introduced us to the stinkbug and the advice was never to crush it to kill it. Glad the one you found didn’t ruin the wonderful candle scent. Hope you do not lose power, but the advance meal prep was wise. If we were home in NH, and not on a road trip, we would be under a similar weather caution. Stay as warm and cozy as possible. Thr snowman mug was very nice and with some tea or hot chocolate, perfect together.
I hate losing power. It's at that point I realize how much of my life revolves around being able to use everyday items. We have had a REALLY cold winter here so far-but no outages yet. I hope you stay safe and warm. Hugs- Diana
