Someone got a treasure. Safe beds are expensive and heavy to move, but worth the effort. We used to have one for overnight gets. I wound up giving it away too when we didn't have room for it. Glad it wasn't ruined and found a home.
What a predicament! I'd no idea that charitable organizations wouldn't accept it. Perhaps, like what my DIL cautioned me (about bedbugs), don't buy anything at Goodwill (etc) that can't be washed -- either in the sink or washing machine.
That's an amazing (and frustrating) story! I never realized it could be so difficult to get rid of a perfectly good sofa bed. And I certainly never heard of shrink-wrapping one! Anyway, I'm glad it finally got a new home.
I, too, was frantic to get someone to pick up a love seat. It was not in as good condition as your sofa bed. This is a depressed area so someone needed a love seat. We called churches, went to churches, handed out Tommy's address. It just sat there with the free sign on it. Finally, it did rain on the loveseat. We were so disheartened. But, lo and behold, the next morning it was gone! I suppose someone will take it and dry it out under a garage or maybe put it on their porch. THEN, we had two recliners and went through the same thing. However, they were taken before the day was over. I know the agony you went through trying to dind furniture a good home.
Awwww, I'm so glad somebody took the sofa bed before it got soaked by the rain. That was a nice end to the story. I also got a kick out of the lobster-in-the-freezer story, Taryterre! Now that is one thing I don't think I'd forget. Wow, you are going to have a houseful again! I think multi-generation living is great! So nice to see your posts. Could not help hoping all through this story that the end result would be a new home for an obviously beloved piece of furniture, then so glad to read it was GONE! I can understand your dilemma at trying to relocate it because we had much the same issues many years ago when emptying out my late mother's home, which had also been my childhood home. So many memories in the furniture pieces. Luckily, this was before we-all-know-what and so the furniture was picked up by an auction house and sold at I know a fraction of its original cost. Other items were put curbside FREE and thankfully those went. The bulk of household items were donated to a charitable group which did pick them up as long as they were placed outside the house. Most of these were boxed up by myself. Sadly, we also rented a hugh dumpster for those items which were not donated or picked up.
Hope the new living arrangements will go well in time as it certainly seems like an adjustment for you and your husband now..
I want someone here to learn from my mistakes in life how Chemicals used in industries gives me Leukemia Cancer and it's all started when I wanted to get off my job to get another job that when I got diagnose, at that very point I was so scared to die because it has infected my blood cells also I was prescribed drugs like Cyclophosphamide,Busulfan,Bosutinib,Cytarabine, Cytosar-U (Cytarabine),Dasatinib in all that was just to keep me waiting for my dying day.
