What were
the odds? I’m not much of a gambler. But last year our LUCK was much better. Neither my hubby or I expected he’d still be employed at 78. But he
was... until they canned him, a month ago... from a part-time job... he had held for the
past four and a half years. We never should have taken it for granted, but we
did. Living on Social Security alone doesn’t afford him and I too many luxuries
from this point on.. but I make it a point to buy a lottery ticket every now
and then, just in case the universe deems it my lucky day. Usually I buy the
paper tickets to play for a chance to win the Power Ball jackpot. But I seldom if
ever win so much as a dollar, despite putting out $10. Not a good investment I
know. About a year ago something pretty remarkable happened in my world, though.
Something that will keep me spending a little bit on the lottery. Back then I bought a
scratch off lottery ticket instead of the other kind. And amazingly I won $750.
Lightning doesn’t strike twice, does it? It was quite a surprise. Collecting
my prize wasn’t as straight forward as I was originally led to believe. I had
to drive an hour away, to a bank designated by the state and fill out all kinds
of paperwork, as though I had won a much BIGGER jackpot. Not to slight the win
but I also did have to pay taxes, plus processing fees out of my winnings.. All
in all it was still a nice chunk of change and I was thrilled to have won. We
probably should have saved the money for a rainy day. We could use it now. But instead it went to buy a couple of smart
tv’s. One for the living room and one for the family room. So we’ve enjoyed a
years worth of entertainment courtesy of the lottery. Have you ever won a
prize? What would you do with your
winnings?

I'd probably do the same if I won like you did. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have 250,000.00 a year for life. We can dream anyway!
I haven't won anything (but I don't play either-lol). My son, however, will gamble once in a while and is the luckiest person I know. He wins big when he goes. Thank the good Lord he does not have an addictive personality or all would be lost!
I am so sorry your hubby lost his job. That hurts when you are trying to live on social security. Blessings to you and him-- Diana
Sorry about your husband's job. Congrats on your winning! I think I would have done the same thing; enjoy that extra little treat with something that would help provide joy in the days to come.
betty
Congrats on your win! At least you have something to show for it, not just frittered away. I enter contests and have won trips, gas cards, furniture, a ride in the Good Year Balloon (one of my very favorite). I don;t ever expect to win and only enter when I have extra time so it takes nothing away from anything else. I do get tons of spam email from doing it so use a special email address that must be checked every single day in case I win. This year I have only won $50 gas GC but we used it on our summer weekend getaway so was much appreciated. Each win causes me to get back into it:) I don't consider myself lucky at all (which is why gambling was never attractive, I put 20 bucks in a slot machine and 80 seconds later I walk away empty handed lol) but persistent
Imma dreamer. I consider the $1 or more I spend on a lottery ticket fun for the what if's!!! Funny that I won $11 on the NC lottery awhile back and had to fill out paper work for that. LOL
I once one $78 on an Arizona lottery. Tickled pink.! I always think of the story I read about the dude always praying to win the lottery. Finally he got a message from heaven. "Could you please help me out here, buy a ticket!"
I consider it good entertainment, since we do not go to movies nor bowl or play golf anymore. LOL
Sorry about the loss of the part time, I am 78 and MUST be busy doing something. I would work if I could, but we move too much. hahaha.
$750 sure ain't nothing to sneeze at! ;-) Good for you!
That's really rotten news about your husband's job. As for the Lottery, I've never won anything in my entire life. $750 is great - - even if you had to go through a lot of trouble to get it.
Congrats on your win. I've never won anything big but I still try once in a while.
Yaaaaay, I've never met anyone who one the lottery! That is a nice chuck of change. And you bought two TV's for pleasure. You definitely deserved that, Taryterre. I think I would have bought something special for the house too. And if you ever win a million, remember your friend, Sheri hehehe. I wanted to do the Publisher Clearinghouse, but it seems like there was a lot of stuff to sign. I really don't ever win money, but a nice chunk of money came to me when my aunt died cause she didn't have any family, and it came when I needed it the most. : )
love, ~Sheri
Never look back, sweetpea. And the older I get the more I believe we shouldn't look forward either. Just live today... and your today is nice & comfy with those tvs. Enjoy!! XOXO
I don't play the lottery very often, but do enter online contests and have been very fortunate. Back in the day won a PlayStation which I gave to my cousins and have won many books. My biggest win was a great pair of fancy sunglasses which I am still using.
Once in a while I'll buy a Powerball or a MO Lotto if it gets really high. I don't think I'm one of the lucky ones. I know people who put their names in drawings and they seem to always win something. Me? Nada. lol! Oh well.
Bless your heart. If the lotteries are way up there...we may buy some tickets. Never won yet. If I do come into any kind of monies , I share with my family. I sold a car once and gave each kid , their mates and children a hundred dollars. That made them happy. When I watch how people are suppose to prepare for retirement, I laugh....sometimes raising a family and helping them even, leaves little to nothing to safe. My goal retiring was save some money, have no debt and own my house and car. Well cars wear out and sometimes we have to go into debt for a car . :) Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
