Both of my
parents are in failing health. Particularly my father who had a stroke and can hardly walk. And
my mom is suffering from sciatica and a bad back. (And so are my husband and I. All part of aging, I presume.)
But we decided a visit was in order despite the distance and the pain. So we vowed to hobble along, to be together. And we
took a ten hour ride through the mountains of Pennsylvania
and West Virginia
to visit home. The trip was a labor of love. Fall foliage was in full
swing. And the colors were magnificent. Seeing them is enough to lift anybody’s
spirits. So we were invigorated by the time we got there. I always like going
through the tunnel in the mountains too. The tough part is always leaving and
saying goodbye again. I wish we lived closer, but unfortunately we don’t. Do
you have someone you love, that lives at a distance? And does it break your heart, too.... that you can't visit them as much as you'd like?

I'm sure that was an unforgettable and extremely emotional trip, enhanced by the glorious backdrop of the autumn foliage. Despite the physical and emotional pain, it was well worth your effort.
Unfortunately, all the people that I loved deeply are now deceased. I still have relatives living in other states - but it's not the same.
I wallow in a bitter loneliness with a fragmented soul....
So glad you were able to make the trip to see your parents! It is beautiful this time of year. Most of my family lives some distance. I only have 1 son and 1 daughter close by. I agree it would be great if we all lived close to each other.
Beautiful colors of the leaves. Good you made the visit to see your parents. Worth the long ride to spend time with them.

We love those tunnels also.
YES we have family in Nevada and Utah, we are fortunate if we see them once a year. Distance can be a heart breaker at times. Glad you got to see mama and dad. I am sure they are!
That looks like a tunnel on I-77, if I remember correctly.
Tunnel was on the PA Turnpike, the Allegheny Ridge. although i've been on the one you mentioned in previous trips.
I've so many regrets, yes. That's primarily why Tom and I are making our move to be close to family.
'Encouraged that you and your hubby elected to make that trip. I'm betting it meant the world and all to your folks! What a gift.
Glad you were able to make the trip. I know back pain can be so hard to deal with.
All of my family live here in town. We never visit each other however, we always meet at moms about once a month for dinner. My daughter lives 30 minutes from me and I wish I could visit her every weekend but shes always busy with friends. Lol. She visits me here at home when she wants to get reat. She misses her old room.

That was so nice of you to visit your parents and traveling 10 hours to see them. I bet the visit was wonderful. And you got to see beautiful Autumn along the way. Yes, I know what it's like to miss someone you love that's so far away. Nel lives in Georgia, a state away. You will remember this special trip always, Taryterre.

Hi Taryterre....Oh, so glad you were able to see your parents. It is so true that when they are gone, you will miss them terribly. Every moment you can spend with them, you will never ever regret. The foliage always is a spirit-lifter for me, too. Hope your week ahead is wonderful. Thanks so much for all your sweet visits. Susan
Taryterre, sorry my post isn't showing up for you. Maybe you could try it again tomorrow. Jess had her baby girl, and she named her Francesca. Thanks for your visits. I always appreciate them.
