When we go
shopping… my husband will often drop me off by the curb, before parking… so I
can get a head start. It usually works out nicely. But the other day it didn’t. I realized there
was a problem the minute my foot hit the asphalt. Something went crunch and I looked down to see
a broken glass bottle. I carefully pushed it away with my foot. But the minute I
took another step I felt something pierce the inside of my boot. A piece of the
glass had wedged itself into the sole and was hurting me from the inside out. I
got back inside the car to remove my boot. I didn’t know what I was going to
do. We were a couple miles from home and this was more than an inconvenience. Fortunately for me… my husband happened to have a pair of
channel locks in the car. They are like pliers only adjustable. Turns out there
was just enough of the glass shard sticking out the bottom of my boot… and it
was thick enough… for him to get a firm grip on it, to pull it out, without it breaking off. I held my breath
praying it wouldn’t snap off and it didn’t. Problem solved. Have you ever had a
freak accident happen to you?

What a rotten thing to happen! It's fortunate that your foot didn't get cut - and I hope your boot wasn't ruined.
I'm sure I've had freak accidents but I can't think of any at the moment. I'll probably think of one later tonight after I'm in bed...
I too am so glad you weren't cut. Accidents can happen so quickly. I can't think of any at the moment either but I'm sure as long as I 've been around this old world I have had some.
That's scary! I'm glad you weren't cut. Good thing you had on boots.
Accidents happen to all of us and are never expected, but yours is one of the freakier ones I've heard of. So glad you have a handy hubby and that he carries tools in the car so he could get that glass out. It could have been so much worse. Glad you are ok.
Right off nothing comes to mind. Funny, it will, once I finish and head on into Bloggland.
BUT, but I know for a fact tugging on 'stuck glass' with any king of metal pliers is an iffy thing. I have tried it too many times without success. Hubby did well.
Once at work, when our crew of electricians were ripping and tearing(that is when we were taking down out stuff and making ready for new), A fluorescent tube broke next to my foot. It stuck a piece into the side of my leather boot stabbing my foot. It was only a small wound but burned . You were smart to get back off your foot as quickly as you did. We have to watch were we are stepping all the time, it's a wonder we don't run into things from looking down. LOL. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
Oh, that glass got your boot, but I hope it didn't pierce your foot, Taryterre. So glad your husband sprung into action and pulled the glass out with the channel locks. I've actually never heard of these before. The other day, I misjudged the distance and went over a curb, and it slit my tire. I thought for sure I needed a new one. But turns out, it didn't go deep enough and was just cosmetic, so my tire was fine. Yes, freak accidents happen sometimes, but Angels are watching over us when they do. : )

Oh there's probably been a few but I can't think of one at the moment. My fall on ice many years ago that resulted in multiple breaks was the most traumatic accident...does that count? I was walking so carefully too, and I remember in the hospital hearing how many people had come in with injuries from falling that day, it was some slippery ice.
So glad you hopped back in the car and your hubby had the right tool and steady hands to get that piece of glass out!
Good grief! ... and thank goodness, that didn't penetrate the underside of your foot!
Off-hand, I can't think of anything. But it reminds me ... After one of our insufferable safety meetings, I said aloud, "how stupid" -- not being allowed to use our foot to stomp down overflowing trash in the bin. Who'd have guessed, all these years later, your freak accident would show me!
Yes, some more serious than others. I was clearing out some brush from my yard. I used a lopper to cut vines, thorns, and little privets, all about a quarter of an inch in diameter. I cut everything about an inch from the ground. I stepped where I had cut things and the leaves were soft, so my foot naturally sunk a bit. One of the bits of privets, a woody shrub/tree, hit in my instep, sliding right past my sandals. It ripped a hole in the most tender part of the foot. That ended my work for a few days. The privet stob made a tunnel into my foot and then ripped part of the skin. Now, I would get to the ER or dr if daytime. That was so painful.
When I was two and walking in a freshly mowed field, I stumbled as a child can do under the rough ground. I fell and one of the rough stobs (stubs) hit me below my eyebrow. Mama said she thought I had been hit in the eye. She said I was bleeding so profusely that it scared her until she could see where the blood came from. Today, I still have the scar, almost a half inch long below my eyebrow.
Wow! Glad you were not hurt!! You weren't, right? Yes, I've had freak accidents but can't remember any at the moment. Thanks for visiting Ellie's blog! My granddaughter gets so excited to see visitors.. You are so kind.
Hi Taryterre. I am SO GLAD that piece of glass didn't slip into the bottom of your FOOT! Oh Lordy. I've had a few close calls. Once, I somehow slipped on the edge of a rug in our front hall and went plummeting.....backward! Instead of getting hurt, the only thing really bruised was my pride. ha ha ha Taryterre, I wanted to thank you for all your faithful visits to my blog. I am always SO HAPPY to see that you have stopped by and taken the time to comment, too. You are a faithful blog peeps. Susan
I'm so glad that glass didn't pierce your skin!
