Even in the dead of winter I love autumnal colors. The vibrant terra cottas, marigolds, sienna browns, turmeric, and sage…. fill me... inside out, with delight. At Christmas, once upon a time… I found joy in the twinkling white lights that mimicked the winter landscape, ice glistening in the moonlight. But later, I began navigating to the old fashioned, multi-colored lights of my childhood. A nostalgic nod... to simpler times that enveloped me, in a big hug. If I had to pick a favorite color… I’d say burgandy or purple. Lavender, not so much. Though mauve/pink has crept into my selection of tops recently. HOWEVER… I’ve never, with all things considered… been fond of the color blue though. Too much bad PR using the word BLUE to describe sad feelings. Just doesn’t appeal to me. So I don’t know why it suddenly has. Perhaps it was reading about a blog buddy's, blue cobalt glassware, that was oh so pretty? Just don’t know why it's on my radar, right now, but it is! I shop thrifts... when I can get out and about. And I collect mugs, among a zillion other things. I use them for water, wine, margaritas, but mostly tea. A nice hot cup, to warm my arthritic hands and fingers, in the dead of winter. What could be more comforting? Anyway... seems like every thrift I go to... has an 'over abundance' of BLUE mugs. Apparently, it is NOT a popular color, this time of year. In some places they are 3 for $.99 or $.99 a piece in others. All sizes are available too. Six, ten, twelve, twenty-four ounces. So I've been snapping them up. They are now my GO-TO vessel of choice. Oh woe is me… BLUE BLUE my world is blue. Did you note... some of my 'new' acquisitions at top of page... that lead into this post. Even if you click and enlarge the pics, you really can't see the cool designs on them. But I promise you they are definitely awesome. What do you think? BLUE is a keeper??? But which mug should I use today??? I'm in the mood for a design that is more 'sedate'... as I sit here and watch the snow pile up outside.

Oh m'gosh, girl! You're the ONLY person I know (besides me) who doesn't care for the color blue! I also adore the color of burgundy; forest green, too.
That's interesting how blue's come to be on your radar. And now, such deals you discovered! Just last week I 'released' much of my mug collection to Goodwill. There was nothing wrong with them; I was just DONE looking at them. You know what I mean? Now that leaves room in the cupboard for more. Yeay!
As always, a fun and sweet visit to your house. I just noticed my favorite coffee cup is blue, as I just refilled it. So yep blue is a keeper. Colors? I never think of them much but noticed just now I lean to tans, browns and blacks. You made me think. (That may not be a great idea. LOL)
Love you lady,
Sherry & jack it got cold in Florida last night.....
Blue is a keeper for sure. I have been in and out with blue over the years. My hubby loves blue so I do have bits and pieces of it here and there. xo Diana
In the winter time I prefer the warmerr colors. Blue is better for me in the summer because it reminds me of cool water. But I stick to reds in the winter to help keep me warm.
Except for the mugs that came with dinnerware, I only have one mug. I am not a mug person since I don't drink hot drinks except for a cup of hot chocolate about once a week in winter.
All the mugs I had were lost in the house. Right now, I have a mug that is read and is like a knit sweater. I use it in the summer if I have broth to drink. And, I put ice cream in it.
Oh, I LOVE blue in January and even through the Winter. And I'm not sure why, but blue china is my favorite. Your mug collection is delightful, and I really like that polka dot cup. I'm looking at one of your cups, and it looks like the same Polish cup I had that broke. I miss it so much. And your snowmen ones are just wonderful. I thought the blue font on your post was creative today too. Enjoy a nice cup of hot tea in your blue cup today, Taryterre. : )

So then, are you saying you don't like blue?
I love blue, It has the ocean feel. Green is next, the two walk hand and hand together.
Keep warm, drink cocoa.
I love blue. When I was first married 30 years ago it was this country blue that was all the rage, but lately I've gotten rid of some of the country blue and transitioned to a beautiful blue/gray. That color is now all the rage, and I just love it! So yeah, lots of blue/gray going on here. Funny thing is, I have no blue mugs. I like your pretty blue mugs. I like that they have a large handle. Lucky you with all that snow.
I like blue, but love pink and, like to pair pink with green. My mugs are all colors, but I gravitate to navy blue mugs I bought in Italy years ago. They've got bright yellow lemons on them and are so sunny. Take care, my friend.
Mugs are great, I agree, and thanks for showing some of yours Tarryterre. As for which to use, I would go with the snowman mug in the top photo because you said it was snowing. We used to have various mugs with penguinn images (of course) but no frogs. Now, our coffee mugs are all red ones with holiday images or a bear and a moose. That said, we still have two clear penguin mugs and a couple of snowman ones tucked away, as well as a couple of image-free red ones. My favorite color is purple, but I've never had a mug in that color. I like you various ones in blue and also that you choose to use blue for the font color of this post, very clever.
Dear Taryterre: We are kindred spirits! Plus, some of your other blog readers are also kindred spirits! Can you believe it? So wonderful.
I once thoroughly disliked the color blue. I never thought about the meaning of the word possible connection. Anyway, in my adult (very adult) years, the combination of blue and yellow as well as blue and white started to appeal to me BIG TIME. My entire kitchen is now "Morning Sunshine" paint on the walls and blue plates, tablecloths, even dishes! Isn't that a riot?
I love to thrift, too, Taryterre. Just LOVE it but I have wayyyyy too many collections so have had to put some skids on recreational shopping.
Please stop by anytime. I always love when you visit Writing Straight from the Heart. Hugs, dear kindred spirit. Susan p.s. LOVE all the blue cups!
I wanted to check your blue post out again, as I love blue tea cups and coffee cups. So, it looks like you are in for a blizzard, oh my. Please bundle up and try to stay warm. I hope your power doesn't go out. Your Yankee candle sounds so nice, and it will keep the house cozy during the snow storm. That's great that it was 75% off after the holidays. I just got a new candle too, Huckleberry. So smart of you to make meals for five days. That's over a foot of snow. Let us know how you're doing in between.
Love that squirrel quote haha.
