On a snowy winter night, almost 30 years ago... my husband and I made a long trek to see an old clapboard house for sale. I had
seen a blurry picture of it in a realtor's guide and fell in love. We wanted to
know if the affection would hold true after seeing it in person. It did and we
later bought the place. But... heading out of town on that snowy night, we stopped at
a local restaurant, to contemplate the future. Thirty years later that
restaurant is still here. To this day, whenever the weather is bad, we often go
there to have comfort food and talk. My favorite thing on the menu is a Philly
Melt. Nothing warms your innards like this sandwich on a cold winter night. Do
you have a favorite cold weather meal??? And an old haunt that's been around a
while?

How sweet that it is still there after so many years and you and hubby still enjoy going there! Because we have moved so many times, we don't have a favorite haunt that is still around where we currently live, but we often talk about those that we enjoyed from years past.

What a nice story. Cold weather and comfort foods have a way of evoking good memories. I seldom like to cook in the summer, but cold winter weather always inspires me to cook lots of things. I especially like homemade soups and stews. I sometimes have pancakes and hot tea for a winter meal.
(I deleted my previous comment due to typos)
Ahhh, comfort food...we love brunswick stew or a weight watchers soup recipe. I usually make more than we need for that night, but freeze it for later in the winter. Yes, there are several restaurants we still visit that have been around for years.
We do have an old restaurant here that we've gone to for many years. It's one place my children love to visit when they come home. I'm not sure just how long it has been around but I do remember visiting there before children ever came along. They are known for their burgers and that is what I usually have.
i love stories like this. when it is snowing we go to restaurants where we can sit in the window, eat dinner and watch the snow fall. it's one of my favorite things to do!
What a lovely story.
I wish I had that sandwich right now..............
We have a favorite diner that we go to every now and then for a cheeseburger and cherry coke. It has a 50s and 60s theme going on complete with Elvis playing his guitar. They play the oldies music which we love from that era. Philly's are a favorite of mine, too. Yum! How nice that you got to buy the house you wanted!
Love a Philly melt, but my favorite cool night food is Oyster stew, now changed to Fish stew.
Good read!
The sandwich looks so good.
I wouldn't be south Texan if I didn't say Mexican food. When I meet my girls in San Antonio they want to go to the restaurant in our old neighborhood where we used to order take out from a little side window. Now it's an enlarged nice restaurant.
I don't have a meal - but I do LOVE hot chocolate with marshmallows.
tASTEE iNN, JUST CLOSED AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS. It was like losing an old friend. That Philly melt sounds great.
Yum! Looks delicious! I love chili when it is cold! Happy SundaY!
Oh, this Philly Melt looks so delicious. There was a little place where I live that had the best Mexican food. The owner was a very good friend of mine, and they just recently closed the business. I couldn't believe it cause it was there my whole life growing up. I was so bummed out because they sold the best tamales and tacos, and it gave me a chance to visit with my friend.
I'm so glad you still have your little place that you and husband go to every now and then. Those old places are the best ones, huh?
Love,

I do love a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, too - - but on a softer roll. We do have two or three places in this area where they serve our "comfort food".
