I've been out to decorate the grave sites of those loved ones in my family that have passed away with some red white and blue flowers and flags too. Some parts of the cemeteries I visited are dedicated to veterans and have flags everywhere to honor those who have served our country. It's nice to have a long weekend here for lots of family get togethers, but you are right we should never forget the reason for this holiday. Hope you have a beautiful Decoration Day. We used to always celebrate the 30th. Now we have the 3 day Memorial day weekend.
So true to remember its true meaning; so many just consider it a 3 day weekend and the unofficial start of summer. I too haven't heard it called Declaration Day in years. I do remember my mom going to put flowers of graves for Memorial Day. Hubby's parents are buried in a military cemetery; we went up to see the graves for Memorial Day a few years back; breath taking and sad to see all decorated with flags (wreaths at Christmas).
We have so much to be thankful for, we have freedom, and many have died to ensure that quality of life we enjoy. Yes, we definitely need to remember the reason for this Memorial day.
I love that you call it Decoration Day. My mom always called it that! Love the last photo. I enjoy walking around the cemetery taking photos of all the old monuments.

Well said, my friend. Well said.
We should never forget the real reason for this holiday. It is not about BBQs and a long weekend off from work.

I haven't heard it called Decoration Day in so long that I'd nearly forgotten. Thanks for reminding me. I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend.

Lest we forget! Sending prayers to those who served and still serving.
