PEANUTS & DISAPPEARING ALLERGY

A couple years ago... I was eating a PAYDAY candy bar and thought I was going to die. My throat closed up and I had trouble breathing. The only thing the doctor could come up with at the time was I must be allergic to the peanuts in the candy. I found this hard to believe because I grew up eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. But seeing the kind of reaction I had to the candy bar... I decided to steer clear of anything with peanuts. And I did for a few years. Over time, however... I forgot about it... and was back to smearing peanut butter on my toast, with no problems. The other night my hubby and I placed a carryout order for a couple sandwiches. And low and behold, there in the restaurant... was a big box of peanuts, with a sign encouraging customers to dig in while they waited for their orders. Not giving it a second thought, we got a tray, piled it with peanuts and started eating. They were delicious. Apparently my food allergy is a thing of the past. Did you ever have an adverse reaction to something you ate?

Must have been a very scary thing to have happen to you. I just ate a Payday a few days ago for the first time in years. It sure was good. Wonder if those particular peanuts could have been fertilized with something that caused that reaction since you can eat them now?

No but I once had a bad reaction to my allergy shots and from that point on never had them and take over the counter meeds that don't work for me....it was a horrible reaction I'd never want again....imagine you felt the same way. I'm a peanut fan so glad you can enjoy again!

I'm glad you outgrew the allergy. I love peanuts but have never had any allergies. There are many that do though and we can be thankful that we don't.

I don't have food allergies That Ikow of, and it was late in life that I learned of some of the life threatening allergies folks have.

I was shocked to learn of the Peanut allergy, but I do know it is real.

Glad it is not effecting you now... That is sort of a wonder...

Off and on to strawberries. It wasn't that serious -- just a rash -- but it seems to have gone away happily.

I haven't, but my hubby did not long after we were married. I'll never forget it and I've never seen anything like it, and of course the stubborn, hard head wouldn't go to the doctor. He ate something with hot pepper sauce on it and in a short time began sweating profusely and his skin, I kid you not, began shriveling up and he looked like a prune. Scared me to death, I did watch him all night to make sure he could breath easily enough. Scary! And scary looking he was, too. He was fine the next morning.

I wonder if it was something else - that is odd.

Wow, that would be scary! I wonder now what got you in that candy bar if it wasn't the peanuts, some additive maybe? Good you can eat and enjoy peanuts! No food or medicine allergies here, thank God!

I'm glad that you're able to eat peanuts again, but your allergic reaction to the Payday is really odd (and frightening).

Enjoy peanuts, but proceed with caution.

By the way - - I LOVE chocolate, but almost every time I eat it (in any form) I sneeze. Could that be some kind of weird allergic reaction??

No, and I would not ever want one. Must have been very scary.

Oh Taryterre,
I'm so glad you didn't have an allergy to the peanuts this time. I don't have any food allergies as of yet. That's nice that they had some peanuts for people to eat while waiting for their meal. When you mentioned the Payday candy bar, I smiled because my mom used to love Paydays and ate them all the time.

Have a nice Sunday, dear.

love,

Glad that you can now eat peanuts. I am deathly allergic to fish. Didn't used to be but then I couldn't eat them. I am afraid to try it again.

no known food allergies, but - I do get hives for no apparent reason, and when I do, Benedryl makes them worse. I told that to a nurse when I had my appendix out and woke up covered in hives. I asked for a Claritin. I got a shot of Benedryl in my IV. Guess what? The nurse who didn't believe me felt really, really bad when I swelled up like a balloon......

I am allergic to eggs, but I don't usually have too bad of a reaction if I'm careful. I know some people actually grow out of allergies. Wonder if you had a reaction to something else in the Payday.

Scary..... cat hair did that 'close the throatup' thing to me once. But I wasn't eating it.

Until recently, I never realized how serious peanut allergies can be! Funny, I don't recall ever having heard of that as a kid -- suppose it existed, but no-one talked about it.

In 2004 -- after decades of enjoying shrimp, crab, etc. -- I developed a shell-fish allergy; thought it was a heart attack! Counting my lucky stars it was shell-fish and not BEEF! :)

We just got a Five Guys here. Sooo good! Never allergic to food but if I eat too many strawberries I cough and began to feel strange.
